«The Velvet SuperSloths mérite le détour et ce premier album éponyme a franchement de quoi vous martyriser les cervicales. Riffs éloquents et refrains entraînants, chaque morceau a une accroche évidente.»

« There’s a great taste of the 1990s here reminding a bit bands like Nirvana or Soundgarden. I’d say that each track may be a surprise. »

« …The band compete on par with the titans of their groove metal influences. […] The only acceptable way to listen to The Velvet SuperSloths’ debut record is loud enough for your neighbours to rightfully make a noise complaint. »

BIOGRAPHY [the serious one]
The Velvet SuperSloths was formed late 2014 in less than 20 minutes. Yanick and Johnny were joking about Johnny’s beard, which would be perfect to be in a stoner band. Soon enough the two of them decided to make it happen. So they each called friends to join in. 20 minutes later Eric and JF were in, and the only missing link was a solid singer. The band jammed and wrote some tunes and put together a 4 songs demo in a month or so. They released the demo hoping it would catch the attention of a strong vocalist. They got a dozen offers from singers of various styles. But Dave was way above the others. Plus, he is a professionnal sound engineer, a huge advantage for a DIY band. December 2014, the band was complete. The Velvet SuperSloths spent two years composing a lot of songs, crafting their sound, and playing local shows. The growing demand brought the band to release 4 singles in 2017-2018. At that time, They had no intention of releasing a full album. The 4 singles got so much good reviews that it allowed The Velvet SuperSloths to play way more shows around the Quebec Province and in Ontario. Late 2018, it became obvious that the band needed a full album, as fans were almost frustrated they couldn’t buy a physical release from the band. Since every ressources needed to produce an album were already available among the band members (sound engineer, graphic designer, marketer, etc), They decided to make it a full DIY project. The album was due to be released in June 2020 and to go on tour the whole summer. A 20 dates tour was booked, and then the pandemic struck, so the band decided to take their time to put the final touches to the album, and to shoot a music video for the song Higher Fire (released Nov. 2020). Their full lenght debut album was release on January 2021. The band played a bunch of shows in 2021/2022, but had to put the band on pause in 2023 to let Dave (vocals) fight a Tonsil cancer. Now the band is back on track, with a lot of new material on hand, ready to take the road in 2024!
BIOGRAPHY [the funny one]
The whole project emerged from Johnny’s beard. As soon as it grew to a respectable length, heavy riffs and grooves started to overflow from it. Yanick noticed the phenomenon and plugged his heavy ass bass in the most fatty-smoky-smelly bass amp to help glue the whole thing together. Soon enough JF and Eric joined their axes to the fight bringing hotter than hell riffs with fat-butt grooves that make volcanos look like smooth bubblebaths beside-these riffs. The devilish mixture was then only lacking high-pitched-growling-melodic spices, so the quartet summoned the spirits of the meanest, the most bad-ass metal warriors to have them forge a loud as fuck vocalist by melting the balls and chains from Hell. Dave knocked at the heavy door and was sucked in immediately. They then threw that big ball of crazy noise in charred whiskey wooden casks to let them macerate for several months until the songs were aged & tasty enough to be played loud and dirty. The result can now be enjoyed with a full feast of pulled pork, crawfish and ribs, drizzled with their special ingredient, the Hot Sloth hot sauce! The Velvet SuperSloths have since been unleashing their furious party live at every occasion. The Velvet SuperSloths released 4 singles in 2017, and a full length debut album in January 2021. A bunch of new material is on the way, just in time to get back on the road in 2024!
« …catchy riffs and earworm chorus that are especially reminiscent of Pantera and Clutch as well as the progenitors of doom metal Black Sabbath […] and even modern rock influences of Korn. »

« Not a track goes by that doesn’t get your head nodding or a foot-tapping, The Sloths’ sound is infectious, to say the least. […] this is an immensely strong debut effort that eagerly showcases what the band holds in its arsenal… »
